“Here’s to you, 2012”
I’m on this poetry kick as I procrastinate more and keep ignoring my finals. I love that even when I feel like I’m being incredibly unproductive, I somehow find inspiration through not doing schoolwork. Sarah Kay is another poet who I love listening to. Check it out.
Anis Mojgani. This guy is the man. This poem is one of my personal favorites of his. What a guy.
I have been listening to Nas’ Debut Album entitled “Illmatic” (!994) for the last week or so. I am disappointed in myself for not listening earlier, being a huge rap/hip hop fan. Often included in the top 5 rap albums of all time, it always irked me that I never gave it a full listen. The first track I listened to was “NY State of Mind” and now for the last week I have been watching this video in the hopes of rapping it myself. So take a listen and let NAS take you back a minute.
The second song I posted is a song by Game entitled “Compton Story” released in 2008 through a mixtape. This song is Game’s attempt (and a damn good one, I might add) to impersonate the legendary lyrical style of the one, the only Slick Rick. This song is in accordance with Slick Rick’s “Children’s story” (1989). I think its a cool tribute to a master of storytelling in the late 80’s early 90’s. Check it out.
Final Cut Pro Review
So far I have played around on Final Cut Pro in a limited sense. I am excited to learn and master this Program as I would like to be able to make my own films and be confident in my abilities to create. So far the best part of the formal learning has been seeing some of the shortcuts involved, because I know that if one were to work on Final Cut for a few hours all that mouse moving adds up. The key commands are useful and practical. I love that we go through a lesson in class, It keeps me engaged and helps me to put a real world application to what I’m learning.

These are some photos I took using my Blackberry device of the Solar Decathlon that takes place in Washington DC from September until early October. My friend John Gann was part of the New Jersey Group as one of the featured architects and helped to design and construct the house in the first two photos.
The first photo is a wide shot of the entire house. It is an establishing shot and lets the onlooker know that this is the setting. The second shot is a medium close up of the wall of the house. This shot shows detail and allows the viewer to view the house in a different way. The third photo is a two shot of Friend/Architect John Gann and my girlfriend Madelyn Perez, seemingly conversing. The two shot introduces the characters and an action (interacting-perhaps talking with one another). This shot allows for the potential of a narrative.
What are they talking about? Where will they go from here? Will other characters enter?
This Photo here is a picture of myself and a little Ecuadorian Girl named Damaris. This photo represents me on a couple of levels.
The first aspect that speaks to who I am is where I am in the photo. This was taken in a small village in Duran Ecuador this past June, while on a solidarity trip through Loyola’s Rostro De Cristo program.
A big part of my Identity I have been focusing on is my ethnicity. I am half Irish (on my mother’s side) and Half Ecuadorian (on my father’s). Because I lived the entirety of my life in Secaucus New Jersey, a growing town outside of New York city, I was rarely if ever exposed to my Latino side. My Irish family lived very close to me, most in the same town, and they weren’t really an “Irish” family per say, they were more Americanized than anything. I came to college feeling lost in who I was, and the Rostro trip was my first real investigation of myself I have made in terms of my ethnicity.
The second aspect of the photo is the child I am holding, who although I may never see her again, and she may not remember me, is part of my family. I am a very family oriented kind of guy. I have very close ties to my biological family, being the eldest of four boys, but also to close friends who I have come to call family.
The photo is representative of my caring nature and desire to be that change in the world. I went on this trip with the intention of broadening my horizons, and really seeing poverty first hand. I got all that and more. And this photo is one of many that push me and challenge me to be a man of the world.
I am Ecuadorian, I am Irish, I am a brother, and I want to change the world for the better… Perhaps I am also naive. But for the time being that is how I choose to see myself.
Much Love,

CM 324- Video- Jay Dunmore Review of the first day of classes. Let me first start off by saying that I am glad we have to make a Tumblr for this video class. I’ve been meaning to make one for some time, and although I always moan and groan about our dependency on technology, I myself am a huge user. The first day of class was interesting to say the least. I like the format of the class. It seems a lot more laid back and informal which could prove effective in allowing the creative juices to start flowing. One of the worst things about formal class setting is that it can sometimes stifle creativity and pigeonhole you into writing and creating exactly what the teacher wants. To me that is not the nature of learning. I think this is going to be a cool class. I’ve always been interested in film and have acted for my friends’ films so I am excited to see what I can come up with. Its legit that Professor Dunmore plays Sax among other instruments. I want to get back into it so badly, and seeing someone who’s not in a 4th grade concert band. I like how we got to speak about ourselves and our interests. Especially that we were able to pull up videos having to do with us. Nice touch to an already interesting class. Oh and the photo I chose is Stanley Kubrick. Not necessarily my favorite film director but I am a fan of his work. Especially Full Metal Jacket. Thought his image, looking forward to creating, was fitting for my first post One Love, Medina
